Events for Climate Week NYC 2013 gathering momentum

NEW YORK: Events for Climate Week NYC 2013 are gathering momentum, with many of the confirmed events showing the variety of what is on offer this year -- the global summit's 5th anniversary.

Climate Week NYC is a hub for over 50 high-profile meetings, events and activities organized in and around New York City by a unique group of business, government, arts and civil society players.

From high-level industry panels and presentations to consumer-focused theatre productions and art installations, the week is once more set to illustrate New Yorkers' and international attendees' diverse passion for climate and clean energy issues.

For one of the earlier events on September 10, there is a reading of a new play called Extreme Whether. This innovative eco drama by Karen Malpede focuses on the constant conflict between climate change scientists and their deniers. There is not only a stellar cast (including the Tony nominated Zach Grenier), but the play is also followed up by a talk back with Jennifer Francis, an Arctic ice scientist. Find out more.

There are also opportunities for the more active climate enthusiast. The Adapting To Change Cycling Tour is a two-hour bike ride around the Lower East Side, East Village and East River Park. The aim of the ride is to see the impact that Hurricane Sandy had on these areas, and the solutions to combat these on both a general and local level. Find out more.

The theme of discussion and building resiliency also runs through many of our other events. For instance, the Urban Green Council is hosting an event about the need for both sustainable and resilient buildings. Their main focus is whether it is possible for the building industry to try and mitigate climate change, while simultaneously responding to its consequences. Find out more

There is clearly something for everyone at this year’s Climate Week NYC, with many more events set to be announced soon. We hope you can join us, for what will be the biggest Climate Week NYC yet -- our fifth anniversary.

Climate Week NYC was created and is hosted by The Climate Group. See what The Climate Group will be doing at Climate Week NYC 2013.
