Australian Government revise estimates to reveal wind and solar will deliver cheapest energy by 2050

MELBOURNE: On July 31, 2012, the Australian Government’s Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics released the Australian Energy Technology Assessment which contains revised cost estimates for energy, and reveals the staggering economic benefits of solar energy.

The new report predicts that onshore wind and solar PV will deliver the cheapest forms of energy by 2030 – with solar PV dramatically cheaper than all other energy forms by 2050.

“This report marks a real turn around in the future of Australian energy.” said Caroline Bayliss, Director Australia, The Climate Group.

“It highlights the long-term affordability of renewable energy. It is essential that Australia now builds upon this research and incorporates solar and wind in its energy outlook.”
